Learning Goals for Sept. 18-22

We are working away in 3rd grade! This week, we will:

Reading: We are continuing our work on the genre of fiction. This still includes the genre characteristics, identifying events that are important to the plot, identifying why the setting is important and how the characters internal characteristics change, based on the plot of the story (3.8ABCDE). We will sequence events from a story and write a summary, using the strategy of beginning, middle and end (3.6F). We are also working on contractions (3.11). We will learn the parts of a poem, lines, stanzas and rhyme scheme (3.10D,G).

Language Arts and Spelling: We are continuing our work with short vowels and the 6 types of syllables (3.2Aiv, 3.2BV). The six syllable types are extremely important to help our readers work through more difficult words and text. You will see our texts, writing and graded papers grow in difficulty as we work through these skills.

Social Studies: We will work on local government for White Oak and how they are elected to office.

IMPORTANT DATES this week: WEDNESDAY is Early Release! PLEASE let us know if your child is going home in a different way than normal. Please write a note in their planner for us to have!
